So You Think You Can Dance

One of the first really good dance television shows is So You Think You Can Dance. It is a fantastic show that showcases some of the best dancers in the United States today.

So You Think You Can Dance

The format of the show is simple. The judges go around several states for open auditions and pick the best in the lot. They go to a sort of like boot camp to further cut down the number of the dancers that will be included in the popular show. Vegas week, as it is called, is often brutal and extremely taxing physically, emotionally and mentally. Those who survived and make the cut, are deemed the twenty best dancers in America.

There are equal number of men and women contestants in the show. They get paired up and assigned a dance style they need to perform the following episode. One man and one woman gets eliminated every week until the finale week where they announce the over-all winner of So You Think You Can Dance.

So You Think You Can Dance Choreographers

The choreographers that teach the dancers the new dance each episode are the real stars of the show. Although they don’t compete and are not given the spotlight as much as the dancers, they are absolutely fantastic in what they do. They come up with the most amazing dances, be it hip hop, contemporary, waltz, jazz and classic ballroom variations.

There are many memorable moments in the show, as well as quirky characters that are funny to see every week. The problem is that there are more and more really good dance competition shows right not that are vying for the audience’s attention.

So You Think You Can Dance – Premier Dance Show

When So You Think You Can Dance first showed, it was the number one show of the summer. People can’t get enough of the stellar performances and entertaining shows. Unfortunately, it has been sliding down the ratings chart for the past few years now and the producers need to do something drastic to get the attention of the fickle audience again.

It isn’t enough anymore that you have great performances delivered each episode. Many times you need more than talent, you need heart. While I am not a fan of overly playing up sad stories to capture the audience votes and sympathies, it is a good idea to give the dancers more air time with things that are more than just dancing.

After all, the dancing will speak for itself, but people will go out of their way to vote and support someone that they personally can relate to. We have seen in the past decades that stars can be born in reality shows, stars that have very little talent to show for themselves—it is high time that a dancer from this amazing show creates a stir because of his/her talent, and their personality as well.
