Cha Cha Slide Dance Steps
It never fails— I’m at a party and I start a Cha Cha line dance and everybody will join in and have a blast. It’s one of the most fun things to do with all your friends and even strangers. It doesn’t even matter if you’re any good at it. I started out horrible. However, I figured if I keep starting this Cha Cha dance line, I better start learning the basic steps for it. Here are the basic Cha Cha Slide dance steps that you can bring with you the next time you join a party.
Cha Cha Slide was created by a Chicago DJ, “Mr. C” originally for a fun aerobic workout routine for Bally’s Total Fitness. There is a specific Cha Cha dance slide music that basically tells you the moves you need to do.
Cha Cha Slide Dance Steps – Instructions
The first is “Take it to the left!” Take a step to the left and then use your right foot and cross it over the left foot. Take another left step and bring your right foot beside the left foot. “Take it back now!” is taking a step back with the right foot, and another step back with the left foot. Take one more step back with the right foot, and bring the left foot beside the right foot.
“One hop this time!” is simply a hop forward. “Right foot let’s stomp!” is to stomp with the right foot (the left foot in front) followed by the “Left foot let’s stomp!” stomping hard with the left foot. Use your arms to add personality to the steps.

“Now Cha Cha Cha!” is the jazz square dance. You use your right foot to cross over the left foot. Take a back step with the left foot, a side step with the right foot, and a forward step with the left foot. “Turn it out!” or “Let’s go to work!” is next. Make a little turn to the left and take a right side step. Bring you left foot across your right foot, take another right side step, and bring your left foot beside your right foot.
“Clap your hands!” is the last basic step which is self-explanatory. Some people add flavor by moving around while clapping their hands. There are other steps that can be added like “Criss cross”, “Slide to the left!”, ‘Slide to the right!”, “How long can you go?”, “Bring it to the top!”, “Hands on your knees!”, “Charlie Brown!” and “Freeze!” which is the last part of the song. When it says “freeze!” strike the best pose and have fun with it.
The last step is this: enjoy yourself! If you don’t remember all the steps, don’t worry about it. As we said, the song pretty much tells you what’s coming next. You might want to practice the few basic steps though before you hit the dance floor— just so that you look better than everyone else out there! Either way, Cha Cha Slide dance steps are going to be fun!
