Cha Cha Slide Dance Steps

Cha Cha slide dance steps is a dance you will often see performed in parties and aerobic trainings. It was designed specifically as a good cardiovascular workout by DJ Casper for Bally’s Total Fitness in 1996 and became such a hit all over the country.

If you want to learn the choreography for this, you will only need the cha cha slide music to help you along. The steps needed in this dance are actually sung out in the lyrics so you don’t need to memorize a lot. You just need to know the steps and practice it a couple of times with and without the music and you’ll be an expert in the cha cha slide dance steps before long.

The first step is “Take it to the left!” (or right). You take a side step to the left (right) foot, use the other foot to step across the left (right) foot, step to the side with the left (right) foot again, then bring the other foot beside your left (right) foot.

“Take it back now!” is taking 3 steps backwards with the left, right, left, and then close the right foot beside the left foot. This is followed by “One hop this time!” and “Right (Left) foot let’s stomp!” which is pretty much self-explanatory.

“Now, Cha cha!” is to cross the right foot over your left foot, then bring the left foot back, take a right side step, and step forward with the left foot. “Turn it out!” is to slightly turn left then taking a right side step, use the left foot to cross the right foot, take another right side step with the left foot, then bring the left foot beside the right foot.

“Clap your hands!” and then “Criss Cross!” is basically a jumping jack but instead of feet beside each other, cross it over each other alternately. “Slide to the left!” is sliding to the left with the right foot sliding right after, followed by “Reverse, Reverse!” which is sliding to the right.

“How low can you go?” is the limbo rock (the lower the better!), then “Bring it to the top!” is raising yourself back up with your arms waving above your head. “Hands to your knees!” criss cross your hands to your bended knees while bouncing to the music. “Charlie Brown!” is running man with an attitude, and finally “Freeze!” stop and strike a pose.
