Tango Shoes

I don’t know who you are but I know one thing, you love to dance. Why else will you be on this page? Tango is one of the most exciting and dramatic ballroom dance you can learn. If you decide to take on the challenge to master the tango, it is important that you are armed with the right tools for it. One of the most important equipment you can own is the right pair of tango shoes.

Having a good pair of ballroom shoes is critical because first of all, it will help keep you from injuring yourself. Tango shoes are typically covered in suede (or as it is sometimes called, chrome leather) which is critical because this is the material that provides the ideal grip when you glide across the dance floor and do those fancy twists and turns. A leather sole will be too slippery; while a rubber covered one will stick to the floor too much—resulting in long term knee injuries.

Aside from the material that is covering the heel, the height of the shoe should also be considered. 1 ½ to 2 ½ inches is the best height to dance in. Tango shoes also usually have flared heels that serve to give adequate support and stability when dancing.

Because of all the sudden turns and sometimes complicated footwork in tango, you should also find shoes that have secure straps that aren’t too loose that it falls off, or too tight that it is uncomfortable. An easy clasp buckle is an excellent feature that is ideal for quick costume changes. Heel supports and extra foot pad cushioning will also alleviate fatigue for the sometimes overworked and over-trained dancer’s feet.

When you buy tango shoes, make sure you get the correct fit. Your toes should be able to wiggle comfortable inside the shoes. If you opt for an open toed sandal, some people prefer that the edges of their toes graze the dance floor the tiniest bit. This helps them get a better bearing when dancing.

Now, of course black is the classic go-to color that you should always have in your dance bag. However, if you are already in the process of adding more variety to your dance closet, then have fun in choosing other colors as well. A nude colored pair help elongate the line of your leg, while fiery red is an eye-popping color that reflects the passion and intensity of the tango.
